The new Master programme will develop ocean technology across different market segments. Special focus will be on marine measurement, control systems and marine installations.

This programme is more applied compared to traditional Master programmes and fits very well with the subsea clusters strengths and possibilities for further growth. GCE Subsea has actively supported the establishing of the new Master programme. Norway needs candidates who can advance the technology and knowledge within ocean technology and who can utilise this both within existing and new applications.
The programme's academic profile is based on applied physics and technology with key topics such as physics, mathematics, instrumentation/measurement technology, robotics and control systems, materials for subsea technology and marine operations. The programme also includes technology management, finance and innovation.
The students can focus their research projects within several topics, including:
monitoring the marine environments (ocean currents, biomass, ecosystem, seabed topography and seabed features)
fisheries and aquaculture
climate (ocean temperatures, mass of ice in the Arctic)
exploration of new mineral and bio-resources in the deep ocean
renewable energy such as offshore wind, wave and tidal power
navy active and passive monitoring techniques
Start-up Already this Year
Both a five and a two-year programme have been established. Students with relevant Bachelor degrees can apply for the two-year programme. The first five-year class will start autumn 2017, with application deadline through “Samordna opptak” by 15 April.
The Master programme in ocean technology is a collaboration between the University of Bergen, Western Norway University of Applied Sciences and the Royal Norwegian Naval Academy.
Business and R&D institutions in the area will also contribute with external teachers, internships and Master projects to students. Please contact us if you are interested in proposing Master projects.
