Announces Two Winners of the Innovation Challenge

An innovation challenge was handed to our subsea cluster following our Subsea Innovation Day in April. The projects Predictive Maintenance of Subsea Pipelines and Integrated Monitoring for Autonomous Process Control have been awarded funding, and you are welcome to join the projects if you like.

The innovation challenge was within the topic of Integrated Monitoring, and innovative solutions for condition based maintenance, environmental monitoring, sustainable utilisation of ocean resources and production optimisation was sought after.

GCE Subsea choose to support two incoming project proposals for developing a main project. Both are seeking to establish a broad consortium and obtain new knowledge which could move the subsea industry forwards.

Improving Predictive Maintenance of Subsea Pipelines

The first project is called Improving Predictive Maintenance of Subsea Pipelines and aims to develop a framework for an integrated decision support system. The system will achieve this first of all by transforming and representing the data, information and knowledge in ways that helps the users make, and document, appropriate decisions. Secondly, by making suggestions in a format that is close to how a user would interpret this manually, and finally, by presenting the relevant data, models, reasoning and results in ways that are easy for the user to understand.

The project is headed by Professor Maneesh Singh at Western Norway University of Applied Sciences (HVL). The appointment of Singh as Professor in 2016 and this project is part of HVL’s strategy to increase its research and teachings within operation and maintenance.

GCE Subsea supports the pre-project with 200 000 Norwegian Kroner to develop the project idea and seek external co-funding for a main project.

The project has already received positive interest from Statoil, Norse Asset Solutions and Competence Hub. More partners are welcome to join.

Integrated Monitoring for Autonomous Process Control

The second project that GCE supports is a joint initiative by IFE, CMR and SINTEF called Integrated Monitoring for Autonomous Process Control. The project aims to develop integrated monitoring of process facilities within the petroleum sector. The project group plans to develop a generic competence building project where knowledge also can be used within other industries. The system targets to be a step towards autonomous process control.

The initiative builds on world-class expertise within modelling of multiphase and process systems, measurement technology, uncertainty and advanced data analysis.

GCE Subsea supports the pre-project with 100 000 Norwegian Kroner to develop the project idea and seek external partners and co-funding for a main project.
